Costa Rica is a beautiful place where natural wonders and interesting sites abound everywhere – so many waterfalls, treetop canopies, and beaches to choose from. Plus the famous state parks and regions such as Arenal. One can keep busy for a long time!
On this page, we will keep a list of interesting places we’ve come across that we’d love to visit.
Nauyaca Falls
A beautiful set of waterfalls near Dominical, they are only accessible by hiking about 2.5 miles each way, or riding in on horseback.
On our first trip to Costa Rica, we visited the Southern Pacific region of Costa Rica, specifically Ojochal, which is about a 45 minute drive south from Nauyaca Falls, and really loved the lush landscape and relative quiet compared to other areas.
If you want to visit, check out the official site, the Trip Advisor page, or some of the blogs we found with more detail on visiting or taking a tour of the site.
Tamarindo Labyrinth
We recently read this article in the Tico Times about a labyrinth made of 5000+ cactii that was created near Tamarindo. Digging in deeper, we were struck by the deep spiritual essence being tapped into as we are believers in the spiritual benefits of meditation and it’s ability to quiet the distractions and busyness of life.
We’ve seen labyrinths painted on playground floors (here are two we’ve seen in our home town of New York City) but have not had the opportunity to see a three dimensional one like this in person. It is really great that this special place is located within a short drive of our Costa Rica base camp of Tamarindo, and so we look forward to visiting on a future trip.
We also love this Huffington Post article that describes a labyrinth, and the twists and turns within its path, as a metaphor to help one find greater meaning and fulfillment in work and personal life, and we look forward to finding the time to take that journey of discovery in Tamarindo!

Stone Spheres of Costa Rica
In the southern zone of Costa Rica, actually not far from where we decided not to buy property, is where over 300 man-made stone spheres were discovered in the 1930’s on a particular tract of land being cleared by the United Fruit Company. Some are as much as 6 feet in diameter!
Unfortunately many of them were damaged as the jungle was cleared, and others of them are on display in various parts of the country, but there is a museum on the original land where they were found, where you can see some of them firsthand in the place they were first discovered.
