This excursion is one of several we took in and around New York City in late May and early June 2019, taking advantage of a few days with really nice weather! Check out the whole series:

  1. Untermyer Gardens
  2. Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden at New York Botanical Garden
  3. Governor’s Island
  4. Staten Island Ferry (current post)
  5. Old Croton Aqueduct And Ossining Weir

======

Right next to the Governor’s Island Ferry terminal is the Staten Island Ferry terminal. The ferry ride is about 20 minutes but it gives you an amazing view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline, as well as Ellis Island and Governor’s Island.

On a summer day, the breeze alone is worth the trip.

Better yet, the ride is free!

Since we were already at the terminal, we ended our excursion to Governor’s Island with a round-trip ride on the Staten Island Ferry. We have ridden the ferry dozens of times by now, but are still awe-struck each time.

By the time we got on the Staten Island Ferry, the Queen Mary 2 was off on it’s way to Europe, which was also fun to see.
